چکیده

1. When iron was available some 10 billion years ago, it was available as Fe (II), but Fe (II) is not a very strong Lewis acid. Thus, it does not bind strongly to most small molecules or activate them strongly toward reaction. 2. Today iron is not readily available from sea or water solutions due to oxidation and hydrolysis. 3. Iron in ferrous state is not easily retained by proteins since it does not bind very strongly to them. 4. Free Fe (II) is mutagenic, especially in the presence of dioxygen.

A short overview about cadmium and its toxicity focused on humans, bioindicators and model organisms

According to Paracelsus (1493-1541) everything from this planet is poison, only the dose makes the poison to be harmless. Even the essential elements for life support are toxic for all organisms in high amounts. Mercury, cadmium, metalloid arsenic and lead were responsible for poisoning and death of many humans and life forms from this planet for centuries. Cadmium forms different compounds tha...

The effect of water borne nickel on iron metabolism and heme biosynthesis in common carp (Cyprinus carpio)

Nickel is an essential element for all living organisms such as microorganisms, plants and animals. When nickel concentration exceeds the necessary concentration, could be toxic, and likewise causes adverse effects in living organisms. In this study, following determining nickel LC50-96h for common carp (Cyprinus carpio), nickel sub-lethal treatments including 0 (control), 0.055, 0.275, 0.572, ...

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ALUMINIUM TOXICITY AND IRON METABOLISM IN RATS

The relationship between aluminium toxicity and iron metabolism was studied. Male rats were exposed to aluminium by daily intraperitoneal injection of 40pmolelkg body weight. After 45 days, aluminium intoxified rats had a significant loweredserum ferritin (55%), iron (42%), TIBC (25%) and hemoglobin(31%). At thesame time the serum ceruloplasmin level was elevated by 60%. This result shows t...
